SC Solar Net Metering
Solar Gets a Lifeline in SC
The SC Senate has passed legislation to extend the net metering program in SC for a period of 10 years.
What is Net Metering?
Net metering is a homeowners ability to produce and sell solar power at utility rate back to the utility company. This is important because most of the solar power that is produced is during the day when the vast majority of solar homes are empty or using little to now power. With net metering, the power that is being produced by the solar system is sent back to the utility, with the utility acting as a large solar storage system for you to use during the evenings or at night.
How does this affect Solar in SC?
Now that solar net metering is expected to continue in the Palmetto State of SC, we can expect to see solar installations increasing over the next few years. This is because customers can take advantage of the attractive solar program with utilies on top of the 30% federal tax credit and the 25% state tax credit (a total of 55% off of the total system costs).
